Who are we?

Otava Opisto co-operative is a network organization for citizen education and training.
Our vision is to combine lifelong learning and active citizenship. We are using future research methods to see how the world is changing. One of the biggest trends is to create more possibilities for people to use their capacity to make their own living environment better, more sustainable and happy. That’s why we design new models how to learn, share expertise and know-how.

Our coop is owned by 18 organizations (NGO’s & R&D organizations) interested in the renewal of education. Coop works in close cooperation with Otava Folk High School, part of non-formal adult education system in Finland, but has recently enlargened with two other Folk High School members.

We develop civic education in partnership with coop’s member organizations (e.g. social change and skills for public participation, innovation training, technology in education, future studies). We also take part R&D projects on e.g. on the flexible organisation or future of learning and education (e.g. TEKES-funded SYSTECH-project in Learning Solutions program and Future Learning Barometer funded by Finnish National Board of Education).
